Mineral oils are derived from the refining of petroleum.
Generally, a distinction is made between paraffinic oils (the most common), naphthenic oils (derived from the refining of special crude oils) and aromatic oils (byproducts of the other two types of oil).
Group I paraffinic oils are usually the result of a refining process by atmospheric distillation, vacuum distillation, aromatic extraction and dewaxing. They are sometimes slightly hydrotreated (hydrfinishing).
According to the API (American Petroleum Institute), a base oil is considered to be Group I if it meets the following criteria:
Base Oil Category | Sulfur (%) | Saturates (%) | Viscosity Index | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Group I (solvent refined) | >0.03 | and / or | <90 | 80 to 120 |
PROXIGO SAS offers Group I mineral oils with a viscosity between 20 and 1000 cSt at 40°C.

Group II mineral oils are the result of atmospheric distillation, vacuum distillation, heavy hydrotreatment and dewaxing.
Because of the hydrotreatment, they contain far less sulfur than Group I mineral oils. Their viscosity index is usually higher than Group I oils.
Base Oil Category | Sulfur (%) | Saturates (%) | Viscosity Index |
---|---|---|---|
Group II (hydrotreated) | <0.03 | >90 | 80 to 120 |
PROXIGO SAS offers Group II mineral oils with a viscosity between 20 and 100 cSt at 40°C.

Group III mineral oils are very severely refined. They are the result of distillation, hydrocracking and catalytic dewaxing.
They are extremely severely refined and are characterized by their very high viscosity index.
Base Oil Category | Sulfur (%) | Saturates (%) | Viscosity Index |
---|---|---|---|
Group III (hydrocracked) | <0.03 | >90 | >120 |
PROXIGO SAS offers colorless Group III mineral oils (Saybolt color >20) with a viscosity between 12 and 50 cSt at 40°C.

Medicinal white oils are completely free of aromatics and heteroatoms.
They meet the purity criteria of the European and American pharmacopoeias as well as the requirements of US FDA 21 CFR 178.878 and US FDA 21 FR 178.3620(a).
They are suitable for cosmetic, pharmaceutical and medicinal applications, among others.
PROXIGO SAS offers medicinal white oils with a viscosity between 15 and 100 cSt at 40°C.
Naphthenic oils are produced from special crude naphthenic oils which give them their good solubility and low temperature properties. They are obtained by vacuum distillation and severe hydrotreatment.
We offer naphthenic mineral oils with a viscosity between 12 and 400 cSt at 40°C.
RAE are viscous and highly aromatic plasticizers perfectly suited for polar rubbers (NR, SBR, CR, etc). They are not labeled according to current European legislation.
We provide a selected range of high performance low viscosity and high flash point polyol esters. They are saturated and highly stable to oxidation.
